Well folks
This hunt nearly never came to be. As on Nov.13-th Jeremy had a cough that nearly had me leave
him sleep , as he coughed all night and I didn't figure he would be well enough to go out with me in the morning on the 14-th
Nov. Well at 5:00 am as I awoke and made coffee & listend to the weather & the winds were finally after 3 weeks, were
about to be just what we needed to hunt at our camp. So I woke Jeremy up gave him some cough Medicine & several cough
drops to take with him out to the stands / Blind. The rut is really turning on now here in Western NY . Bucks have been moving
constantly now day & night rounding doe's. Well we left the cabin at 6:10 am, Jeremy still is limited to groundblinds
as he is only 15- yrs .Due to NYS. poor ability to keep up with the rest of the country on age for youth hunting rules. However
we moved his blind about 10 yards from my treestand the day before . Well we got settled in our stands & were there maybe
30 min. when we heard something approaching the swamp we were set up on . It leads from a bedding area to an acorn / beechnut
ridge. within a minute or so we soon realized it wasn't a squirrel, etc. Then in an instant the Bucks antlers then head stepped
down into the swamp . Jeremy waited til the buck was fully out in plain sight, he then drew back his bow a bit early
but, was able to hold it til the buck offered a clear shot opportunity. I was shaking with adreanalin to no end, because I
was watching a dream I've had for years about to come true :) . Well he didn't let me down. Jeremy let the arrow fly
from his Martin bow & that Muzzy Broadhead dropped that buck right in his tracks "without one step". Folks I don't
know who was more excited myself or Jeremy, the shot was about 12 -14 yards & he smoked that buck . It was 7:10 am &
over 5 minutes into first light. I then told him lets go back to the cabin for a few minutes as to let the deer lay down
to sleep. Needless to say Jeremy was beside himself with excitement as was I. We went back about 5 minutes later & there
lay his wide 6-point buck about 165-170 lbs with a 15 1/2 inside spread . Folks If I never take another deer , I will
have that memory as will Jeremy for the rest of our time here on earth. I couldn't be more Proud of my Son . He is now officially
addicted to the outdoors & for me the quality time spent with him was well worth all the years I spent training &
just taking him out into the great outdoors. I believe this is the best story I've written to date , because I got to witness
it all first hand his first deer & a nice Buck as a bonus. The quality time with my wife Carol & Son Jeremy is
what its all about to me. Great big Thanks go out to my Wife Carol, as the temps were in the 60's & we had to field
dress , & quarter out the buck right then to get it home in the fridge. to cool . We are home today to cut &
process the deer today & will be back out tomorrow, to try & fill our tags :)
Congratulations Son for a mighy fine shot on a good Buck !
May You be Blessed with many more deer in your Lifetime & your Childrens one Day :)
Love Dad & Mom :)
Myself & Wife Carol
Well after a week since Jeremy took that nice 6-point, we decided we would
fill
a couple of our doe tags. We went out this past Sunday I took a
doe. The following day we , went back out to the same spot & Carol took a button buck . Since then we had plenty
of snow "Finally" & I was able to see tracks of an enormous buck, so I will be heading back out to see If I can't get
lucky enough to have a shot at him. I will keep you updated . Also overall this season was just tough all the way around &
I will elaborate more on this at the end of the season.
Until then Have yourself a great hunt , Be Safe & good luck
