Folks this next section I would like to share some
various Tactics that have paid off time and Time again for myself and family & hunting buddies.Though a little out
of the ordinary to say the least. About 15 years ago my brother purchased his land where we hunted,&
he eventually would build his house.During the first years after he built, We began hunting mostly on & around his property. The
area was abundant with wildlife especially Deer. This area quickly became our favorite hunting area . However after a
couple of years the Deer seemed to be able to Pattern our stratagies , meaning that they always seemed to be one step ahead
of us , as are they at most times , One case imparticular, myself and brother George left the house to go out & hunt the
farm property next to his house. As we entered the field next to his Property we noticed a small herd of deer we had
seen on several day's during the early gun season, And they had spotted us , but instead of trying
to sneak in after that, I had told my brother to keep walkin down towards the treeline the deer were in which was just outside
an apple orchard / tangle thicket. Upon getting to the treeline the deer watched as we started heading towards them. I had
explained to my brother I wanted to try something different. We had no snow at that point but were expecting 5 or
so inches later in the morning that day . I told my brother to just keep talking as we walked, just as we do in the woods
during the summer months while chainsawing his winter supply of wood for the fireplace. I told him when we approach the area
where we had spotted the group of deer go in, to just continue talking, & walking etc. right
by them as if we were not hunting them. As we walked I explained to him my plan though he probably thought I was not all there
lol :)!!! Once past the deer about 50 yards I had told my brother I would be dropping off to stand next to a tree about
45 yards past where the deer entered the apple orchard & would stay along the treeline, which bordered a cut cornfield.
And that he should at that point to continue on walking, talking as if we were together still & continue
the along walk around the back side of where we saw the deer. But most importantly he was to continue talking out
loud as we did passing that spot where they entered when we approached them. By now I'm sure George really thought I
was nuts!!! to put it plain & simple ( he he) But I explained I was trying to see if we could fool the deer into
thinking we were still together & were not a threat. Since we were already busted by them before we even entered
the woods. Anyhow, we really didn't have anything to lose either way. He continued on his way around the area behind where
the deer went in, which led him to a dogleg, which in turn led to a ridge that would take him on the backside of where
the deer entered. That is if they had not ran down all the way through there already Though against his better
judgement he continued walking & talking aloud as if we were still together until he was out of site. When he came
to the area that was about even to where the deer had entered the apple orchard above! , He Headed right straight up
no longer talking at that point just walking in a semi straight line. Well it happend!! We had managed to fool the
very same deer that had not just a half hour before that, had seen us & ran. They came right back out into the
field & looked back to see what it was that startled them. Upon doing so left me a perfect shot opportunity at anyone
of them. I took aim & fired 4 times at 2 of the 6 deer!!! I watched as they both went down . One of them was a 5 point
buck and the second being a large Doe. The other 4 deer bolted back into the woods. Less than a minute later I heard
3 shots ring out!! very close to where the deer ran in. I waited about 2 minutes, then called to my brother George on
our two way radio's we carried alway's.
He answered & told me he had shot what
he had thought was a spike buck turned out to be a 4 point & a doe as well I told him I had also taken
a buck & doe. Well it goes without saying we had just pulled off the unthinkable!!! We had just scored 4 of 6 deer who
had seen us enter the woods & managed to fool them. With a plan I never really would have believed or tried
normally, However it paid off that day !! We have sinced tried & scored with that very same plan on a few occassions ,It
hasn't worked on every try, But rest assured we try that plan at least once a year ever since that day!!! And it has become
one of our game plans since & will continue to be for years to come. I believe doing something completly unexpected, was
the reason we scored that day. And on several other occassions since. Sometimes you just don't have anything to lose especially
like us on that day when we were caught by the deer comming into the field. So Dare to be different it can & has paid
off for myself / family and friends many times!!!. Though there was no snow when we took these deer, it had snowed
heavily within an hour after dragging my brother Georges Buck back to his house. By the time we got all the
deer back later that day we had about 5 to six inches etc. When we took picturess of these
deer later in the day.
So Don't be afraid to try something out of the
ordinary
(especially
when your busted) You have
nothing to lose And possibly everything to gain!!!!
So Until Next Time Folks May You Have A Great & Safe
!!!!Hunt And May You Bag The Deer Of A Lifetime!!!!
