At least from what Myself & Wife Carol have researched, here in Western
New York State. The herd looks to be in fairly good health. Myself and My Wife (hunting Partner), Carol have been
out scouting on several occassions , Providing the weather was feasable to do so. I have been taking Pictures as well
as Video, while on our trips out to the woods, looking for shed antlers. The majority of deer at this time
of year are now traveling in large groups once again. They normally travel in large groups through the deep snow
to make various paths leading to & from bedding & feeding areas, etc. to cut cornfields, or leftover cornfields
etc. And traveling these routes makes it easier to navigate the deep snows by making paths that look like they were shoveled,
by having several deer travel together & continue to use these same paths over & over as long as they are left undisturbed.
I notice usually the same day the manure spreaders hit the field , the deer are not too far behind eating the leftover corn
from the cattle at the various farms locally & across the state. Turkeys are in huge abundance as well. We have seen countless
flocks of turkey, turkey vultures, & several crows at these same locations. And with Turkey season just around the
corner, we were pretty excited about seeing them in good numbers as well. The area by where my hunting camp is at, is loaded
with trails leading in & out of the farmers field adjacent my property, with everything from rabbits, crows, turkey ,
deer, & various other animals. I have taken several Pictures and believe that due to the melting snow between the heavy
snows this year, the overall herd will pull through nicely barring any severe weather conditions, that last several
more weeks, as we have only found 2 deer that didn't survive the harsh weather so far this year, opposed to many in past
years I've found . But these were younger deer possibly late 1-st year fawns, at least where my camp is located
at, and an area about 3- square miles around that. Below are some pictures , myself & wife Carol took while
out on one of our winter scouting trips. Though the quality was not the greatest on some pictures. You
are able however, to see by the size of the animals they look to be in pretty fair health. I will be updating with more
pictures & video soon, as we are supposed to get a slight warming trend possibly as soon as next week . My Wife and
I will be back out hunting for shed antlers. So I will update you more then.
