Hello Everyone
Well another Deer season has come & gone. :( . But it will go down in Our memories
forever as the absolute best year Ever!!! For Bucks at least . I Personally had Never seen so many bucks in any
one area ever. I'm talking about an area less that 1/2 mile in size where we hunt & our camp is located. I seen at least
14 bucks in less than that 1/2 mile, 2 weeks pryor to the bow opener. I was so excited I could hardly sleep. After having
encounter after encounter with buck after buck , on my camera & trailcams. All summer we had seen probably 90% doe's including
several that had gave birth to twins. We are lucky , as the doe's usually have their young within the area around our
camp. This year the one doe that had twins , finally brought them out into our meadow , In late september. She had kept them
right behind our outhouse in a ditch with Buffalo grass right along the stream that runs through my property. We have several
pics & trail cam pics as well of them, as well as several other fawns with their mothers. The deer were so used to myself
, my son Jeremy & wife Carol , spending alot of time there preparing camp for the summer / Fall hunting seasons,
they came out into our meadow often . They are alway's so curious & didn't feel we were a threat to them I guess. Our
camp is located deep into the woods where they spend most of their time. Anyhow this season was completely different than
any other season since I've owned the property at least. I had seen a total of & constant run ins with at least 14-
different bucks during the 1-st 2 weeks of archery. Then during the pre - rut the bucks had the whole area so torn up / rutted
up they chased "all" or nearly all the doe's right out of the immediate area . Any how during archery My wife Carol decided
to hunt one of the main trails leading from their bedding areas to an acorn / beechnut ridge. adjacent my property.
I had a climbing stand located there. This Day Carol got out approx. 5:45 am & got into the climber stand but , only decided
to climb approx. 6- 8 ft' high off the ground as the winds were in her favor. At about 7:45 give or take a few minutes. she
watched as 5 adult doe's appeared from a pine thicket where the deer bed down about 100 yards away. As the deer approached
she started picking out a doe she would try & take given the opportunity. At around the same time, she noticed more
movement comming from the same area the doe's came from. She watched as the deer approached closer, and noticed it was a decent
buck & decided that she would hold out & see if she would possibly have a shot opportunity at the buck . As he approached
she seen he was a decent 8- pointer. The doe's meanwhile continued past her at around 25 yards, following a trail that lead
from the bedding area , through a swamp that leads to the acorn/ beachnut ridge , where there once again was an awesome crop
of acorns etc. As she was waiting for the buck to turn , she stood up when he looked away for a second. Finally
in what seemed an eternity the buck finally came within 10- 15 yards away Carol was already at full draw at this point. She
was just waiting for that perfect shot at the vitals , but then decided the buck was close enough that she would give a
spine shot a try , as he was well within her comfort zone for a clean shot. As the buck got right along side her about
15 yards , she let the arrow fly !!!! Yes!!!! a perfect spine shot & the Buck never took another
step ! . By the time she got down from the stand & over to the buck he had already expired. She then called me on the
2 way radio's & let me know we had another son lol code for "a Buck" . I immediately left my stand location, went back
to camp & got the plastic sled . Although there was no snow then !!! it still made the
drag back to camp alot easier. Upon seeing the buck & realizing it was Carols nicest buck to date with her new Diamond
Bowtech Bow. I couldn't have been more Proud of her , Even though she scored the "Big One"
:) Congratulations Again Sweetie . She could hardly wait til the gun season now !!! She was ecstatic !!! and the backstraps
were awesome tender viddles . I can officially say My Beautiful wife Carol has been bitten by the Bow hunting Bug :) .). Hopefully
the shotgun Season will prove to be as much excitement> we will keep you all updated!
