This Muzzleloading season was just a wonderful finish to an awesome 2008 hunting
season overall. Myself ,my Wife Carol,
and I, are so very grateful to GOD, for the opportunity we had to hunt together and
along with our Son Jeremy , nephews, Eric & Robby Jr . And my older brother George Sr. To combine Family &
fun together , There is no better way but to share the great outdoors with the ones you Love.
This entire year was absolutly great because we got to share it with Family.
Well by muzzleloader season everyone had gotten deer. So I decided since I had tags left to go out & try my luck at muzzloading
. We had already decided if I shot a deer , we would donate it to the local food pantry. It was December 15- th I decided
to hunt along a swamp that runs through my property . I had found several fresh tracks there the day before, when we came
back to camp to close it up for the season. I decided to set up in a treestand I had in the swamp already . There was
only mabye 1 or 2 shots all day on the 14th, so I figured mabye I'll get lucky in the stand. There were fresh tracks nearly
everywhere on the morning of the 15th when I got up to go out at around 6:00 am . Already up in the stand around 6:30 AM it
was pretty windy around 8:00 am. I was just thinking of getting down out of the stand , when I saw movement from the
adjoining Property heading towards my location . It was 4 doe's . They were traveling single file towards my stand. There
is a path I had cut with my chainsaw earlier in the fall that leads to a stream that runs right through my property that eventually
leads to the reserviour . The deer kept comming at a steady slow pace, until they finally jumped the stream & were well
within my shot range . I took aim & set the crosshairs just behind the first doe's shoulder & fired !! The
Big doe fell immediatly . The other 3 doe's quickly bolted right on past me going right under my stand . I quickly reloaded
my muzzleloader, Its a Traditions ( Yukon ) after sighting it in, I really like the action & accuracy of this gun.
Just as I finished reloading the doe got up & I was able to fire again & dispatch the deer right in her
tracks, quickly & humainly. I radioed my wife right away & she came down the path with a plastic sled to help drag
the deer back to camp . I was very happy along with Carol , that we would be able to donate another deer , it just gives
us such pleasure giving back a little something, & this would be our second one donated this year & it just
gives us a good feeling knowing that we along with alot of other hunters can donate their extra deer , to a great cause for
those less fortunate than ourselves. GOD Bless all the Folks Butchers , & all involved in seeing these deer get
to the various pantries etc. There are several programs like Project ( H. O. P. E ) Hunters Opening Peoples
Eye's , as well as other programs like it that will take your donated deer & proccess it , make sure it goes to
the various programs etc. So anyone having an extra deer to donate Its an awesome feeling knowing we are able to give back
a little to a sport that is & has been so very good to us through the years. GOD Bless you all for doing it.
Well this year was just all it could be for myself & Carol. I got to hunt
along with my Son Jeremy, Wife Carol, My older Brother George , his son, my Nephew & Godchild Eric, My
older brother Bob who passed away last year, His son Robby jr came down from Vermont to hunt with his uncles & cousins.
It was awesome having us all together on a hunt. We hope to continue for years to come . '
